Our Roots

Ten years of a tree planted for every HTD Mango dining table sold.

For the past decade, HTD has planted one tree for every Mango dining table sold — reversing deforestation across Texas, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam. That same commitment now grows into clean water. There is far more to do — we have only just started.

An Open Invitation

Are your charities in eco-conscious industries being passed by?

We want to help. There are small organizations doing real environmental work — replanting forests, cleaning water, protecting land — that never get the funding or the attention their results deserve. Not because the work is weak, but because they are small, unglamorous, or far from the people who write the checks.

The Mango Foundation wants to be an umbrella for those groups. We can lend what a furniture company with a film crew actually has: a platform and an audience, the storytelling to make the work legible to donors, introductions to partners across our industry, and funding where we are able. You keep running your program. We help more people find it.

If that sounds like your organization, or one you support, we want to hear about it.

The Promise Behind the Product

Furniture, held to a standard.

Sustainability isn't a line item at HTD — it's a founding condition of how the company sources, builds, and gives back.

Home Trends & Design is a founding partner of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, the industry body that set the first shared standard for responsible wood sourcing, low-emission finishes, and honest material claims across American furniture. That membership isn't a badge we added later — it's part of how the company was built.

That standard starts on the factory floor. HTD spearheaded the use of borax to protect wood from boring insects in the factories where we operate, replacing copper arsenic — a heavy-metal carcinogen that is dangerous for artisans to handle and lingers in the soil long after the work is done. Borax is an effective insecticide that is safe to handle and does not bioaccumulate. What began in a few of our factories is now an industry standard.

We also insisted on solvent-based finishes over water-based ones, which has been instrumental in preventing groundwater contamination, and our non-flammable chemistry eliminates the risk of spontaneous combustion.

The Mango Foundation carries that promise further. For every Mango table HTD sells, a tree goes into the ground — in the same regions where the wood, rattan, and stone in our collections are sourced, so the forest gets something back before the furniture ever leaves the warehouse.

01

Regional replanting

Trees go back into the same watersheds and forests our materials come from — India, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

02

Safer factory chemistry

Borax in place of copper arsenic for insect protection, and finishing chemistry chosen to keep contaminants out of groundwater.

03

Domestic restoration

04

Water access alongside trees

Clean water initiatives run in tandem with planting, because a forest and a community grow from the same source.

Goals

Clean water, one well at a time.

Bringing safe drinking water within walking distance for one community for every well HTD funds.

Our 2027 Initiative

Going all in on clean water.

For 2027, the Mango Foundation is putting its weight behind one thing: getting clean drinking water to the communities our furniture comes from. We are doing it with charity: water, an organization that has spent nearly two decades building water systems in the places that need them most — and that is already working in Rajasthan, where our own program is headed.

We chose them because of how they operate. One hundred percent of public donations go directly to funding water projects; private donors cover their operating costs. Every project they complete is proven with GPS coordinates and photographs, so the money is traceable all the way to the well.

HTD has its own page with charity: water, and every dollar given through it goes to the field. This is the beginning of the work, not a report on it — there is a great deal still to do.

The Sustainable Furnishings Council.

HTD and the Mango Foundation produced this three-part film series on the Sustainable Furnishings Council — how the standard came together, who built it, and what it changed on factory floors and in forests. We wrote, shot, and cut all three volumes in house, the same way we make everything else.

Where the Work Happens

Trees and wells, one source.

Reforestation and clean water initiatives run side by side — because the same rivers and watersheds that feed a forest are what a village drinks from.

The HTD Guarantee

One Mango Table, One Tree.

For every Mango table HTD sells, a tree goes into the ground. Not an offset bought elsewhere and not a round-up at checkout — a seedling planted in the same regions the wood came from.

India Rainwater Harvesting

We plan to work with charity: water to build wells in Rajasthan, where groundwater runs scarce and is often too saline or fluoride-heavy to drink safely. They are already on the ground there, and we are funding the work alongside them.

Emergency Response — August 2026

Nepal needs help right now. Act today.

Flash flooding and a landslide along the Nepal-China border tore through the Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts in late August 2026 — the same Himalayan region where the Mango Foundation's water program operates. Homes, bridges, and water systems were destroyed, and thousands of households are still without shelter or safe water. Relief organizations are on the ground now, working under difficult conditions — a direct contribution today is the fastest way to help.

Questions, partnerships, or where the money goes.

The Mango Foundation is the giving program of Home Trends & Design. We do not collect donations ourselves and we do not hold donor funds. Every gift goes directly to the registered charity doing the work, on that charity's own website, and they issue the receipt.

HTD covers the foundation's operating costs, so nothing is taken out along the way for staff, travel, or overhead.

Where your money actually goes
  • Clean water — donations are made on charity: water's own page. They receive and receipt the funds.
  • Nepal relief — donations are made on UNICEF USA's site. They receive and receipt the funds.
  • Tree planting — HTD funds one tree for every Mango table sold through One Tree Planted, who do the planting. Paid from HTD revenue, so no public donation is involved.
